Then let off just long enough to see the welds cherry red dissappear.then repeat, continueing where you left off.
Blowing holes in sheet metal flux welding.
Burn through happens when your welder is set to a higher amperage which makes a hotter weld while at the same time welding a thin piece of metal causing it to blow through the metal creating a hole.
Try lowering the heat setting if you're blowing holes through the sheet metal.
That would make it easier but it sounds as tho you have too much wire speed.
The following list outlines the possible reasons for burn throughs.
In this video matt goes over how to fill holes in sheet metal using a mig welder and a tig welder!
Welding thin metal is not easy as you can easily make holes on the weld.
Jbrittonjr and scrap metal 48 like this.
Have a wet rag nearby and pad the metal after a few spots to help soak some heat out as you spot weld along.
On sheet metal, you always stitch weld, to prevent blowing holes and warping the metal from overheating.
This tool is available through hf and performing a lap weld is much easier.
Clean up the welds later with a grinder and flapping disk.
[/ quote ] punch 1/8 holes (i used a punch i bought at eastwood) every 2 lay the panel over the floor to be replaced.
I have actually been doing all of that and have had get success welding in the 18 gauge patch panels.
And hop around from end to end.
Still ended up blowing holes.
There was glue, paint, grease, rust, or oil on your welding surface or in your filler material contaminating your workspace.
Secure the new panel with self tapping sheet metal screws in about 8 places.
I have no welding experience besides a very small amount of mig welding in the past which wasn't very good.
